Plate calculator

Type the weight you want on the bar and pick your bar. You get the plates for each side, heaviest first, so you load it once and lift.

Plates per side

  1. 25 kg
  2. 15 kg

Load the heaviest plate first, innermost on the sleeve.

How it works

  • Take the bar off your target, split the rest in two, and fill each side from the heaviest plate down.
  • In kg the smallest plate is 1.25, so the bar moves in 2.5 kg jumps. In lb it is 2.5, so 5 lb jumps. Anything in between rounds down.
  • A standard bar is 20 kg or 45 lb, a women's bar 15 kg or 35 lb, an EZ curl bar about 10 kg or 25 lb. Weigh yours if the gym's bars are odd.

Questions

Do collars count?
Spring clips weigh next to nothing, so no. Competition collars are 2.5 kg each, so take 5 kg off your plates if you use them.
Which plates does it use?
25, 20, 15, 10, 5, 2.5 and 1.25 kg, or 45, 35, 25, 10, 5 and 2.5 lb. That's what most gyms have on the rack.
Does it work in pounds?
Yes. Switch the unit to lb and both the bar and the plates switch to pound sizes.
