Food data sources

Every food in the catalog comes from somewhere. Here is who to thank, and the licence each one comes under. Our copy of the share-alike data is free to grab on the open data page.

Swole.fit's food catalog combines public food databases with foods our users add. Values are converted to our format (per 100 g, grams for portions, one nutrient set), so they can differ slightly from the original through rounding or calculation. Food data is general information, provided 'as is', without warranty, and is not medical advice.

There are limitations associated with food composition databases. Food composition data used in the database or databases may represent an average of the nutrient content of a particular sample of foods and ingredients, determined at a particular time. The nutrient composition of foods and ingredients can vary substantially between batches and brands because of a number of factors, including changes in season, processing practices and ingredient source, and methods of calculation.
