Cable Bicep Curl
The cable bicep curl is an arm isolation exercise where you curl a straight or EZ bar up from a low pulley. It trains the biceps with tension that stays on at the bottom of the curl, where dumbbells go easy. It is a simple, joint-friendly way to add biceps volume, and the pin makes small load jumps easy.

Weekly sets for biceps
Hard sets per week that Swole.fit plans for biceps, counting every exercise that trains it. Start a cycle near the growth line and climb toward the recovery limit before a deload.
How to do the cable bicep curl
- 01Set the pulley at the lowest position and attach a straight bar or EZ bar.
- 02Grab the bar with an underhand, shoulder-width grip and stand a small step back from the stack.
- 03Stand tall with your elbows pinned against your sides and arms fully straight.
- 04Curl the bar up toward your shoulders, keeping your elbows still, until your biceps are fully shortened.
- 05Squeeze at the top, then lower the bar slowly until your arms are straight again.
Coaching cues
- Elbows glued to your ribs
- Squeeze the bar, curl your pinkies up
- Full stretch at the bottom
Common mistakes
- Rocking your torso to start each rep swaps biceps work for momentum, so stand still and lower the weight.
- Letting your elbows drift forward at the top shifts load to the front delts, so keep them pinned beside your torso.
- Stopping before your arms straighten cuts the range, so finish each rep with your elbows fully extended.
How Swole.fit programs it
Log it once and the app plans the next session for you.
- Most sets land between 8 and 15 reps, the range the plan steers isolation work toward for size.
- Week one starts around 2 to 3 reps in reserve. Each week you train a little closer to failure, ending around 0 to 1 in reserve before a deload week.
- Hit the top of the range on every set and the next session adds the smallest real jump in weight, rounded to the plates, dumbbells or stack you actually have.
- Sets for this exercise count toward your weekly volume for every muscle it trains: a full set for the primary muscles, half a set for the helpers.
