Cable Chest Press
The cable chest press is a standing or bench pressing movement where you push two cable handles forward from chest height. It trains the chest, with the triceps and front shoulders helping. Cables keep tension at lockout and let your hands travel slightly inward, so it is a joint-friendly alternative to the bench press.

Weekly sets for chest
Hard sets per week that Swole.fit plans for chest, counting every exercise that trains it. Start a cycle near the growth line and climb toward the recovery limit before a deload.
How to do the cable chest press
- 01Set both pulleys just below shoulder height and attach a D-handle to each.
- 02Grab the handles, step forward into a split stance and bring them to the sides of your chest.
- 03Brace your midsection and tuck your elbows to roughly 45 degrees from your torso.
- 04Press the handles forward and slightly together until your arms are straight in front of your chest.
- 05Lower the handles back to your chest slowly, keeping your torso still and your shoulders down.
Coaching cues
- Punch forward, finish with hands close
- Elbows at 45 degrees, not flared
- Stay rooted through the front foot
Common mistakes
- Using a narrow stance lets the cables pull you backward mid-set, so take a long split stance and brace before every rep.
- Flaring your elbows straight out to the sides stresses the shoulders, so tuck them slightly and press along a natural path.
- Letting your shoulders roll forward at lockout hands the work to the front delts, so keep your shoulder blades set back.
How Swole.fit programs it
Log it once and the app plans the next session for you.
- Most sets land between 8 and 15 reps, the range the plan steers compound lifts toward for size.
- Week one starts around 2 to 3 reps in reserve. Each week you train a little closer to failure, ending around 0 to 1 in reserve before a deload week.
- Hit the top of the range on every set and the next session adds the smallest real jump in weight, rounded to the plates, dumbbells or stack you actually have.
- Sets for this exercise count toward your weekly volume for every muscle it trains: a full set for the primary muscles, half a set for the helpers.
