Cable Preacher Curl
The cable preacher curl is a biceps isolation exercise where you curl a bar from a low pulley with your upper arms braced on a preacher pad. The pad stops any cheating, and the cable keeps tension on the biceps in the stretched position. Use it for strict, high-quality biceps volume.
Muscles worked
The cable preacher curl trains the biceps.

Weekly sets for biceps
Hard sets per week that Swole.fit plans for biceps, counting every exercise that trains it. Start a cycle near the growth line and climb toward the recovery limit before a deload.
How to do the cable preacher curl
- 01Place a preacher bench in front of a low pulley and attach a straight bar or EZ bar.
- 02Sit or kneel at the pad so your armpits sit snugly against its top edge.
- 03Grab the bar underhand at shoulder width and rest the backs of your upper arms flat on the pad.
- 04Curl the bar up until your forearms are close to vertical, keeping your arms on the pad.
- 05Lower the bar slowly until your elbows are nearly straight, without bouncing at the bottom.
Coaching cues
- Armpits tight to the pad
- Control the bottom, own the stretch
- Curl up, don't lean back
Common mistakes
- Lifting your elbows off the pad to finish the rep cheats the biceps, so keep your upper arms flat throughout.
- Dropping fast into the bottom and bouncing out loads the elbow joint, so lower slowly and reverse smoothly.
- Sitting too far from the pad lets your shoulders take over, so sit close with your armpits on the top edge.
How Swole.fit programs it
Log it once and the app plans the next session for you.
- Most sets land between 8 and 15 reps, the range the plan steers isolation work toward for size.
- Week one starts around 2 to 3 reps in reserve. Each week you train a little closer to failure, ending around 0 to 1 in reserve before a deload week.
- Hit the top of the range on every set and the next session adds the smallest real jump in weight, rounded to the plates, dumbbells or stack you actually have.
- Sets for this exercise count toward your weekly volume for every muscle it trains: a full set for the primary muscles, half a set for the helpers.
