Kettlebell Turkish Get-Up
The kettlebell Turkish get-up is a slow, multi-stage move from lying on your back to standing with a bell locked out overhead. It builds shoulder stability and trunk strength, with glutes and quads driving the stand. Use it for controlled, full-body positional strength rather than chasing heavy loads.
Muscles worked
The kettlebell turkish get-up trains the abs and shoulders, with glutes, quadriceps helping.

How to do the kettlebell turkish get-up
- 01Lie on your side, grip the bell, roll onto your back and press it to lockout with both hands.
- 02Bend the knee on the bell side, plant that foot and set the other arm out at 45 degrees.
- 03Roll up onto your elbow, then your hand, keeping the bell stacked over your shoulder the whole time.
- 04Bridge your hips up, sweep the straight leg under you into a half-kneeling position.
- 05Lift your torso upright, then stand up from the lunge with the bell still locked overhead.
- 06Reverse every stage slowly back to the floor, then switch sides.
Coaching cues
- Eyes on the bell until upright
- Punch the ceiling, lock the elbow
- Move slow, own each position
Common mistakes
- Letting the bell drift forward or behind the shoulder costs control, so keep your arm vertical and wrist straight throughout.
- Rushing through the stages hides weak positions, so pause briefly at each step before moving on.
- Skipping the hip bridge leaves no room to sweep your leg, so lift your hips high before bringing the knee under.
How Swole.fit programs it
Log it once and the app plans the next session for you.
- Most sets land between 8 and 15 reps, the range the plan steers compound lifts toward for size.
- Week one starts around 2 to 3 reps in reserve. Each week you train a little closer to failure, ending around 0 to 1 in reserve before a deload week.
- Hit the top of the range on every set and the next session adds the smallest real jump in weight, rounded to the plates, dumbbells or stack you actually have.
- Sets for this exercise count toward your weekly volume for every muscle it trains: a full set for the primary muscles, half a set for the helpers.
