Cable Crossover
The cable crossover is a standing chest isolation exercise where you pull two handles from shoulder-height pulleys and cross your hands in front of your body. It trains the chest through a long range with tension at both ends, which dumbbell flyes lose at the top. Pick it to finish chest day with a hard squeeze.

Weekly sets for chest
Hard sets per week that Swole.fit plans for chest, counting every exercise that trains it. Start a cycle near the growth line and climb toward the recovery limit before a deload.
How to do the cable crossover
- 01Set both pulleys at roughly shoulder height and attach a single D-handle to each side.
- 02Grab a handle in each hand and take one step forward so the stacks lift off their pins.
- 03Stagger your feet, lean your torso slightly forward and hold a soft, fixed bend in your elbows.
- 04Sweep your hands down and in until your wrists cross just in front of your lower chest.
- 05Squeeze for a beat, then let your arms open slowly until you feel a stretch across your chest.
Coaching cues
- Hug a big tree, then cross your wrists
- Keep the elbow bend locked from start to finish
- Chest proud, shoulders down and back
Common mistakes
- Bending and straightening the elbows turns the fly into a press, so lock the elbow angle and move only at the shoulder.
- Letting the handles yank your arms far behind your body strains the shoulder, so stop the stretch where your chest still controls it.
- Rocking your torso to move the weight hides weak reps, so brace in a staggered stance and lower the load until you stay still.
How Swole.fit programs it
Log it once and the app plans the next session for you.
- Most sets land between 8 and 15 reps, the range the plan steers isolation work toward for size.
- Week one starts around 2 to 3 reps in reserve. Each week you train a little closer to failure, ending around 0 to 1 in reserve before a deload week.
- Hit the top of the range on every set and the next session adds the smallest real jump in weight, rounded to the plates, dumbbells or stack you actually have.
- Sets for this exercise count toward your weekly volume for every muscle it trains: a full set for the primary muscles, half a set for the helpers.
