Low Cable Crossover

The low cable crossover is a chest isolation exercise with the pulleys set near the floor, so you scoop the handles up and together in front of your face. The upward path biases the upper, clavicular chest. Use it when your upper chest lags and incline pressing alone is not getting it done.

How to do the low cable crossover

  1. 01Set both pulleys at the lowest position and attach a D-handle to each.
  2. 02Pick up the handles, step forward to load the stacks and stand tall with a slight forward lean.
  3. 03Let your arms hang down and out at your sides with palms facing forward and elbows softly bent.
  4. 04Scoop the handles up and inward until they meet around upper-chest or chin height.
  5. 05Squeeze the top of your chest, then lower your arms back down and out with control.

Coaching cues

  • Scoop up like lifting a heavy tray
  • Pinkies turn slightly up at the top
  • Shoulders stay down while hands rise

Common mistakes

  • Raising the handles above your head turns the top into a front raise, so stop around chin height.
  • Curling the handles up with your biceps shortens the arc, so hold a fixed elbow bend and move from the shoulder.
  • Arching your lower back to finish the rep means the load is too heavy, so brace your abs and drop the weight.

How Swole.fit programs it

Log it once and the app plans the next session for you.

  • Most sets land between 8 and 15 reps, the range the plan steers isolation work toward for size.
  • Week one starts around 2 to 3 reps in reserve. Each week you train a little closer to failure, ending around 0 to 1 in reserve before a deload week.
  • Hit the top of the range on every set and the next session adds the smallest real jump in weight, rounded to the plates, dumbbells or stack you actually have.
  • Sets for this exercise count toward your weekly volume for every muscle it trains: a full set for the primary muscles, half a set for the helpers.

The full method, with the maths, is in how mesocycles work.
